Imagine that you just enrolled in the illustration program at NYC’s School of Visual Arts (@svanyc). You’d want to learn the tricks of the trade from someone who has a wide berth of knowledge, right? Yuko Shimizu (@yukoart) 清水裕子 - who earned an MFA in illustration at SVA in 2003 - is among the really impressive faculty at that art school. In addition to creating fantastic images like this one (which was inspired by the Lunar New Year), her portfolio is jam-packed full of editorial illustrations, advertising, book/comic book covers, posters, murals, t-shirt designs…you name it, she’s done it. Oh, and just a few years ago, the Society of Illustrators presented Yuko with their prestigious Hamilton King Award, which is a pretty big deal. Double high fives to Yuko for kicking major illustrative bootayyy, and also to SVA for embracing artistic excellence! •••
